Director of Finance and Grant Administration
About United Way of Reno County:
United Way of Reno County is dedicated to creating lasting change in our community by improving the lives of individuals and families. We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Manager of Business and Finance to manage our financial operations and ensure efficient and effective financial stewardship in support of our mission.
Position Overview:
The Director of Finance and Grant Administration is a hands-on, detail-oriented leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management and grant administration for United Way of Reno County. This role is evenly split between financial operations and managing the lifecycle of grant funding, from research and application to spending and reporting. The successful candidate will possess strong accounting and grant management skills, thrive in a collaborative environment, and share our commitment to fiscal responsibility and community impact.
This position reports directly to the CEO and works closely with the Administrative Assistant, who provides support for key financial processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management (Approx. 50%)
- Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks, including coding income and expenses.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for leadership and board meetings.
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor accounts payable/receivable, manage journal entries, and align receivables with actuals.
- Track financial activity for investment accounts (CDARS, First Wealth Management, HCF).
- Process deposits and oversee invoice payments (with support from the Administrative Assistant).
- Coordinate annual financial audit and ensure timely 1099 processing.
- Manage donor acknowledgments, tax letters, and contribution documentation.
- Serve as liaison for IT, phone systems, and credit card administration.
Grant Administration (Approx. 50%)
- Oversee tracking, spending, and compliance for all active grants.
- Submit timely and accurate grant reports.
- Identify and research new grant opportunities aligned with UWRC’s priorities.
- Prepare and submit grant proposals.
- Communicate regularly with internal team members about grant budgets and spending.
- Maintain complete and organized grant documentation and calendars.
Requirements:
- Proven work experience as a Manager of Finance or in a similar role, preferably in a nonprofit or service-provider environment.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on process improvement and efficiency.
- Strong ethics, with the ability to manage confidential information and make sound, compliant decisions.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
Compensation:

Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (required).
- At least 2–3 years of experience in nonprofit finance, accounting, or grants administration.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Familiarity with grant processes, research, and reporting preferred.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
